THURS NIGHT WEEKLY QUICK-PLAY REPORT: 18/02/21

February 19, 2021NewsBy Ray Noble

Thurs 18th Feb 21; 8:10 pm to 9:40pm
Arena 43; Time-Control – 5 minutes + 3 seconds increments

We had 15 players entered this week including two new players which is always good news!  MerlinCooper I do not yet know (or maybe I do but don’t know it yet!). “Boaby” A.K.A Craig McCracken (UG) is a new member to Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and is playing in his first ever Castlehill competitive event. I am sure I speak for everyone at Castlehill when I say, “Welcome to our chess club”.

This was a strong field, including Declan Shafi (2184) and IM Richard Polaczek (2354) to name but two!

Congratulations go to Ognyan “Oggy” Kolev (1450) taking the top spot on 26 points! Fantastic performance by Oggy and now he has tasted victory on more than one occasion, I am sure he will always be a threat to any player and will want to finish top again and again!

Declan Shafi (2184) was runner-up this time on 24 points. He beat Oggy in his last match, but it was not enough this time. In third place was Richard Polaczek IM (2354) on 20 points. Both Declan and Richard only lost one match each and guess what? Yes you would be right, in the very first match Richard took the honours, beating Declan, but Declan got the chance for revenge and he took it in both hands, making it one a piece on the night! This could be a very interesting battle between both of them if they keep playing in this event!

Standings

1st Ognyan Kolev 26pts

2nd Declan Shafi 24pts

3rd Richard Polaczek IM 20pts

Thank you to Declan for organising the Quick-Play. Thank you also goes to you the players for supporting this event. That’s why it is the success it is!

Roll on next week!
