JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 20-21 – Round 3

February 17, 2021NewsBy Ray Noble

JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2020-21

Mon 15th Feb 21 – 6pm – Round 3 – 15 minutes each – two matches

Round three did not throw up any surprises as the top players all won their games!

Rishi Vijayakumar J9 (1002) saw off the challenge of Alexander Barron-Majerik J9 (221) in fine style winning two nil. Rishi is proving to be a real powerhouse and who knows what the future holds for him if he keeps on improving at this rate! Alexander while not yet in Rishi`s class, is a very talented young man in his own right. Hopefully he will build on his present skill set and begin to show us what he can do when he puts his mind to it!

Ramit Kanodia J13 (900) also won two nil against the youngest of the Dickson brothers, Noah Dickson aged 8. He did not get it all his own way as Noah showed us that he has what it takes to improve quickly and maybe be a real threat to Ramit and others in the future. Just a step two far for now! Ramit is the oldest of the players involved but he is still only 13 years old! He has a lot of experience for one so young and we can expect more from him in the not to distant future.

Josh Dickson J10 (UG) the older of the sibling brothers has already shown a marked improvement since joining Castlehill Chess Club and saw off the tricky tie against the talented, but unpredictable Haoqi Liu J9 (UG), winning both games. Give Josh another 6 months at this rate of improvement and he may well be giving Rishi and Ramit a run for their money! Mind you maybe he is ready now! Haoqi has the talent to be a really good player, or better. He thinks outside the box and has his own style which can be sharp and cutting, while other times blunt and ineffective. If he can harness and control that “thinking out of the box” play, there is no telling what he could do!

Standings (after 3 rounds)

1st = Rishi Vijayakumar J9 & Ramit Kanodia J13  5 pts each

3rd Josh Dickson J10 4 pts

4th= Alexander Barron-Majerik J9 & Haoqi Liu J9 2 pts each
6th Noah Dickson J8 0 pts

Round four is on Monday 22nd March 21, 6pm and it should be a cracker with bragging rights up for grabs between Josh & Noah Dickson who face off! Can Rishi & Ramit keep their good start going?
