Thurs 19th Aug 21 – 6pm – Lichess
Division 2 – Group C
Well here we go again with another 4NCL season and Dundee City has 5 teams in the 4NCL, one in the junior and 4 in the open league. Dundee City is a joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club which has proved very successful since we joined forces.
Our juniors kicked things off on Thursday 19th August, with the open section to start this Tuesday 24th August with both playing fortnightly.
Watford Juniors B 3½, Dundee City Juniors 4½
The juniors start at 6pm and play two matches against the same opponent (black & white). The time-control is 10 minutes, plus 5 seconds increments.
What a fantastic result for Dundee City Juniors in their first match as they won 4½ – 3½ on the night! They were massively out graded with the Watford Juniors average grade at 1276 and Dundee City at 576! But grades can be deceiving and I know our junior’s grades do not reflect their real chess strength.
Board one: Rishi Vijayakumar J10 (1497) our very own wonder kid lived up to his billing as he won both his matches against a player graded 1321. Just does not let you down!
Board two: Josh Dickson J11 (199) took on the challenge against a player graded 1279 and won his first game and drew his second game to finish on 1½ out of 2! What a performance from one of our relatively new juniors and another up and coming prospect for our chess club!
Board three: Alexander Barron-Majerik J10 (221) lost his first game to a 1303, but I am not sure what happened in his second game against the same opponent as Alexander won by default. No matter how you get a win, it’s a win and one that you could say made a big difference to the score line!
Board four: Noah Dickson J9 (199) had a hard time of it against a player graded 1129 and lost both matches. But the result does not tell the whole story and Noah showed in these two matches he has what it takes to improve and compete at this level and is one to watch in the future!
Congratulations to our juniors (Rishi, Josh, Alexander & Noah) on a fantastic winning start to their division two, group “C” campaign.
Round two is on Thursday 2nd September 21, 6pm against the Warwickshire Bears F who are graded 1316 and won their first match 5½ – 2½. Should be a battle and a half!
