CASTLEHILL QUICK-PLAY GRAND PRIX
Thurs 10th June 21 – Round 3 – 7 round Swiss
It was a very open and tough night for all players involved including the top players! We had 15 entries in total with three players tied for first place on the night!
Congratulations to Andre Babin, Jan Barron-Majerik and Baillie Armstrong who was playing for the first time online at Castlehill. All players finished with 5 points out of 7.
The other two Grand Prix places went to Andy Rowe and Graham Mooney both on 4½ points and tied for 4th place.
Subhayu Banerjee started like a runaway train but could not complete all the rounds this time. Andre suffered an early set back but came back strong. Andy was looking good after 4 rounds, but fell away at the end, but he did have a change to finish ahead of the field if only he had won his last match. Being the defending champion can be hard work sometimes!
A big thumbs up to our junior players, Ramit Kanodia J13, Josh Dickson J10 and Max Whisson J15 for a very good night’s chess, all finishing on 3 points. Impressive indeed!
It was good to see Baillie Armstrong again and may I say what a performance, the come back kid indeed!
Andre Babin still leads the field on 13 points with two events left. Jan Barron-Majerik on 11½ points is hot on his heals!
