CASTLEHILL QUICK-PLAY GRAND PRIX (1)
Monday 3rd May 21 – 7:30pm – Lichess – Castlehill
The first of five interconnected (Grand Prix) quick-play competitions took place on Mon 3rd May 21 and we had 14 entries (12 players, plus two interlopers!).
It started at 7:31pm and was finished by 8:45pm having played 7 rounds of 3 minutes, plus 2 seconds increments! So plenty chess but not too taxing on time taken up!
This is a “Grand Prix” competition so the player with the most points after the five nights will be the champion. You get points for the first 5 places (1st=5pts; 2nd=4pts; 3rd=3pts; 4th=2pts & 5th=1pt). Everybody who plays gets a bonus 1 point for supporting the event, so a maximum of 6 points up for grabs each time!
Congratulations to Euan Murray who took the top spot on 5½ points (4 wins & 3 draws), having not been defeated by anybody on the night. On his tail in runner-up spot was Jan Barron-Majerik on 5 points and the last podium place was taken by Andre Babin and a new member to our club from Bulgaria (he lives in Dundee!), Shaban Karpach on 4½ points each! What a welcome to our club! Looks like Castlehill have found another strong player to join our ranks! Subhayu Banerjee took the last points spot in 5th place.
It was a tough night with a tough time-control but it can make for exciting chess and some hilarious and frustrating moments as well!
