This was the last round for this campaign and Dundee City A was hoping for more than four boards, but it was not to be this time. This was a match of two halves with Poti Chess Club from Georgia winning 3 – 1 in the first four games. Andrew Greet IM was the only Dundee City player to get on the board. Declan Shafi, Andrew Wright and Ed Spencer all lost. But the four Dundee players are a very experienced and strong set of players and they proved that in the next set of four games, winning them 3-1 to level the scores at the end of the match to get a much needed draw from 3-1 down! Andrew Greet IM made it 2 out of 2, while Andrew Wright and Ed Spencer both won their last games. It was not Declan Shafi`s day as he went down 2-0 this time.
While Dundee City might have been slight favourites before the match started, Poti Chess Club were not fazed, played well and deserved the 3-1 lead. But Dundee City proved they have the mental strength under pressure to fight back and deservedly get the draw! What a fantastic result in the end for Dundee City A after their start and credit to both sides for the chess played!
The match commentary was on TwitchTV and you can still watch it now if you missed it!
“Commentary on all matches that night”
This result means Dundee City A finish on 6½ points out of 10 and sit in 21st place but with some matches still to be played.
This leaves the door ajar for Dundee City B to go above Dundee City A if the can win their round 10 match against Team Chile next Sunday. A draw would put them on the same points. Should be a cracker!
