TAFCA UPDATE (Christmas edition!)
Merry Christmas to all!
There are still a few results (matches played) that have not been added yet to TAFCA website, but below is a summary of how Castlehill are doing in TAFCA based on the TAFCA website info!
Dundee A and Perth A are top both unbeaten on six points. Castlehill “A” (played 1) & “C” (played 3) is on two points. The “A” team are always capable of moving up the table if they can produce there top four players at every match! As for our “C” team, they have always punched above their weight and are the only “C” team from any club to be in division one! Castlehill “B” (played 1) will need to put some points on the board if they wish to avoid relegation.
Castlehill “D” are top of division two on 5 points! They are closely followed by Newport Knights “A” & “B”.& Dundee “D”. Keep this up lads and you will be in with a chance of being division two league champions and get promoted to division one!
Castlehill “E” & “F” are doing fine with the “F” team using a lot of our juniors to give them experience of TAFCA chess!
Castlehill still have 3 team left in the knockout, but two of them meet in the Q/F`s (“A” & “B”). Castlehill “D” have already reached the Semi-Finals and await the winners of Dundee “A” & “B”
TAFCA ALLEGRO CHAMPIONSHIP
After two events (5 in total), it`s good news for Castlehill Chess Club Dundee! Yes the top four players are all from our club! Euan Dawson (1798), Paul Shafi (1467) & Andy Rowe (1583) are in equal 1st place on 7 points each. Ray Noble (1537) is in 4th place on 4½ points. Not only that, it’s congratulations to Castlehill with Euan Dawson becoming the 1st Newport Knights TAFCA Allegro Champion and Andy Rowe becoming the TAFCA Castlehill Allegro Champion. They are both the first winners ever of those events!
Both nights were great chess nights and both Newport & Castlehill pushed the boats out on the night!
With 3 events left it`s still all to play for but for now, well played Castlehill! The next Allegro is on Mon 28th Jan 19 at Perth Chess Club.

Once again it’s congratulations to Castlehill and Euan Dawson who takes the Christmas number one spot in this event with 12½ points! Master Dawson leads by 3 points from the chasing pack of Alastair Dawson, Raymond Flood & Colin Young, all on 9½ points. Still along way to go but a good lead for Euan!
So far Castlehill are exceeding expectations in most of the TAFCA events. Lets hope we can keep it going until the end of the season! It would be nice to have 4 Castlehill teams in division one next year. It would also be good for Castlehill to be the first winners of the new format TAFCA Allegro Championship.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising and playing in TAFCA events. A special thank you to all Castlehill players for making us proud!
We have plenty to look forward to in the New Year! If it’s chess, it has to be “Castlehill Chess Club Dundee”! It’s a bit like “Fish & Chips”, “Salt & Pepper” or “Chas & Dave”, it just looks and sounds perfect!
