TAFCA LEAGUE ONLINE – Match Report
Castlehill Dragons 2nd match of their campaign for league dominance was an away match against St.Andrews Bee Movie on Thurs 23rd July 20, 7:30pm. Now this was St.Andrews first match as they had a free week the last time. They are a bit of an unknown team as all their players have estimate gradings!
Castlehill Dragons (Avg grade 947) & St.Andrews Bee Movie (Avg grade 1100)
To be honest with St.Andrews all estimates and Dragons Rishi Vijakumars grade not reflecting his now higher standard, it hard to say who’s favourite to win!
- Board 3; Daniel Coleman (1056) v (1050)e Wilson Jones
Daniel won his second game out of 2 with a nice miniature after his opponent in a worse position, blundered on move 10 to give Daniel a piece and a nice little checkmate! Captain’s job well done!
Accuracy: White = %, Black = % (Not enough moves to get a %)
St.Andrews Bee Movie 0, Dragons 1
- Board 2: Drew Knauss (1150)e v (1091) Marten Kats
The first few moves saw the game swing both ways, but then Marten started to dominate and by move 12 he was in total control. So much so he could even afford to miss a mate in one! On move 38 Marten played c2, but Rf1# was better! But of course it did not matter anyway as Marten was never in trouble!
Accuracy: White = 30%, Black = 64%
Marten’s win gives the Dragons at least a draw!
St.Andrews Bee Movie 0, Dragons 2
- Board 4: Riley Kelehan (1000)e v (482) Rishi Vijayakumar J8
While we had no idea of Riley`s skill’s, we knew Rishi`s was far better than his grade as he has improved in leaps and bounds over the last few months. Riley started off very well and had by far the better of it, even winning by move 13! But then Rishi applied the pressure and Riley started making mistakes, and by move 16, Rishi was in a very strong position (What 3 moves later?) and never let it slip to win the game.
Accuracy: White = 27%, Black = 54%
Rishi`s victory gave the Dragons the match with one game to spare!
St.Andrews Bee Movie 0, Dragons 3
The first three matches were played at a frantic pace, but the 4th was a totally different matter!
- Board 1: Norman Waugh (1161) v (1200)e Matthew Heritage
Norman was never in any trouble it seemed, but it was more like a war of attrition! With a lot of patience, Norman finally got his rewards and went a piece up! The bishop pair also proved to be a big winning advantage in the end! Last to finish, but not least, Norman showed being on board one was no problem for him at all!
Accuracy: White = 60%, Black = 37%
St.Andrews Bee Movie 0, Dragons 4
What a great performance and result by the Dragons! The first whitewash of the TAFCA Online League and evidence that the Dragons have the fire power to go far! St.Andrews was unable to douse the flames this time! Well played everyone!
“You haven’t been bit till a dragon does it.”
The Cobra`s had a free week so were not playing!
