(Including who`s won what in all 3 division, plus update on Knockout!)
Played Thurs 12th March 20
Div 1 – St.Andrews Uni A 3, Castlehill A 1
Report on match by Andy Rowe
Michael Dugdale (1536)e v Christopher Tranier (UG) on board 3 was the first to finish My view as I was next to him and mine was a slow game He got in a strong position early doors pawn up and a good attack. Winning Didn’t really convert the attack. Then he blundered a whole bishop. Losing. Unsure how but he got it back to draw like status spurning a perpetual on the way. Rook and 4 pawns each. Opponent maybe gave a pawn away. Michael tried to queen the past pawn giving his other pawns away. I thought he had it won but no everything got exchanged leaving opponent with the winning past pawn
St.Andrews Uni A 1, Castlehill A 0
Next to finish on board 2 was Robert Jackson (1573) who was playing Thomas Bruce-Caddick (UG) was always losing against a very strong opponent who has already beaten Dundee`s Stephen Hogg (2064)!
St.Andrews Uni A 2, Castlehill A 0
Mean while on board 4! Andy Rowe (1536) v Stuart Ballantyne (1486)e
I played a very drawish game which went down to 6 pawns each balanced with 1 rook each. The only edge I had was time and my king was much further up board than his and my rook had the only open file. I think it was likely drawn. Stuart offered draw but Dariusz game on board 1 looked complicated and thought he might win so declined. I asked questions which he answered but his time was going . I think he got through the best of my efforts and then messed up on the most obvious of my attempts and I was in and won
St.Andrews Uni A 2, Castlehill A 1
Last too finish board 1 Dariusz Kosznik (1772) v Euan Gray (2017)
Looked across at Dariusz Kosznik`s came. Complicated. God knows who best but maybe Dariusz good and he had 8 minutes with his opponent only 4 minutes.
Two moves later Dariusz missed a reasonably obvious trap check mate (couldn’t take the Queen that was checking as the pawn to take it with was pinned to the king by a Bishop! So he resigned.
St.Andrews Uni A 3, Castlehill A 1
So we lost 3 1 but was lot closer than result suggests and could have gone the other way.
Now that loss by Castlehill A means (unofficially as I might have the figures wrong!) Dundee A with a match to spare win the league title on board points (but can still win on match points)!

MATCHES LEFT (as far as I know!)
Wed 18th March: Newport Knights v Castlehill C
Thurs 19th March: Castlehill A v Dundee B
Tues 24th March: Dundee A v Castlehill A
Dundee A will want to win the league on match points by beating Castlehill A, but regardless they are champions no matter the result (unofficially!).
Congratulation to Dundee A from all at Castlehill Chess Club Dundee. Well deserved indeed!
As for last relegation place?
If Dundee B lose, all Castlehill C need to do (hard ask!) is draw or win to avoid relegation. A Dundee B win would mean they avoid relegation no matter what Castlehill C do. Off course Kirkcaldy A are still not out of the woods, but have no say in the matter. If Dundee B can draw and Castlehill C can win, then it`s Kirkcaldy A than join Kirkcaldy B in the 2nd division next year (unofficially of course!).
Semi-Final result – Wed 11th March 20
Castlehill A 4½, St.Andrews Uni 3½
This result means Castlehill A are in the final and will meet either Dundee A or Castlehill C. That match is down for Tues 24th March 20 at Dundee.
A big thank you to Newport Knights Chess Club for letting us use their premises which helped get the match played! Both Castlehill A & St.Andrews Uni A played each other two days in a row (Wed 11th March & Thurs 12th March!) just to get it done!
OTHER LEAGUE NEWS (unofficially off course!)
Division Two Champions: Castlehill D and are promoted to division one! The runners up spot and promotion place is between Dundee C & Perth B.
Division Three Champions: St.Andrews Uni B and promotion to division two!

Be safe out there!
