TAFCA ALLEGRO CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 2021-22
CLUB – CASTLEHILL – Thurs 24th March 2022 – 7:30pm – Lichess
5 round Swiss – 15 minutes each player
We had 13 players in the penultimate TAFCA Allegro playing for the TAFCA Castlehill title and points towards the TAFCA Overall championship.
It is fitting that a Castlehill player won our own championship, so congratulations to Richard Polaczek IM (Castlehill) on becoming the TAFCA Allegro Castlehill Champion 2021-22 with a perfect 5 out of 5! It’s never easy being number one seed with everybody after your blood but he coped well under pressure, the force is strong in this one. Well played Richard!
Well played Ed Spencer (Dundee) and Sam Herring (St.Andrews) on finishing joint runners-up on 3½ points each. Ed is a Dundee stalwart and has been around longer than he looks! Sam is one of St.Andrews Uni top players and proved that in this competition!
The current leader before tonight’s event, Richard Kynoch (Castlehill) finished in equal 4th place on 3 points along side Stuart Ballantyne (St.Andrews) and the forever popular Ray Flood (Dundee) who has been playing a lot of online chess and doing very well indeed for himself and Dundee Chess Club!
Other Castlehill players:
- Rishi Vijayakumar J10 finished in equal 7th place on 2 points having only played in 3 rounds!
- Jan Barron-Majerik also finished in equal 7th place having played in all 5 rounds!
- Andre Babin was not in his best form finishing in equal 7th place on 2 points.
- Subhayu Banerjee the enigma of chess found this a bit tough this time round finishing on zero points, but has obviously been working out as he was able to hold the rest of the players aloft, finishing bottom of the pack!
Richard Kynoch (Castlehill) still leads the overall championship on 18½ points with one event left. Ed Spencer (Dundee) is chasing him on 15½ points but 3 points is a lot to catch up if Richard plays in the last one! But it is possible and were there is a will, there is always a way! Richard Poloaczek IM (Castlehill) is in third place on 13 points having not played in all of the events so far, so I guess he has made is push too late this time!
The last event is on Thursday 7th April 2022, 7:30pm on Lichess with St.Andrews Uni the host club.
The TAFCA Allegro Championship Series is also part of the J.R.Chalmers Grand Prix Memorial. Every point or ½ point (byes not included) goes towards this event in memory of TAFCA`s and Dundee`s late president Jim Chalmers. Richard Kynoch (Castlehill) is also leading this one!
