Tournament 50+ – 9 rounds
UPDATE – Final report!
Round 7 and Scotland get back to winning ways with a nice 3 – 1 win against the Polish Amateurs! FM Andrew Burnett makes it two wins in a row supported by Neil Farrell on board 2! Both players got the full backing from Alan Scrimgour and James Stevenson who both drew their matches!
Round 8: Against Iceland, FM Andrew Burnett makes it three wins in a row ! It seems like buses, you don’t see one in a while and then three turn up all at once! Great play Andrew! Unfortunately it was not enough this time Neil Farrell on board two lost as did Alan Stevenson with 4th board IM David Levy getting a draw! That meant another 3 – 1 defeat for Scotland but it was close!
That left Scotland in 13th place with one round to go.
Round 9: (Last) In the last round Scotland faced Italy Asti Sempre Uniti and finished their campaign with a nice 3 – 1 win. FM Andrew Burnett was on fire as he made it 4 wins in a row! Neil Farrell also ended with a win, while James Stevenson and IM David Levy both drew their matches.
Amazingly this lifted Scotland into 9th place in the ranking, two above their ranking! If you finish above your ranking you have had a good tournament! All the Scottish players played their part but special mention to FM Andrew Burnett who played 7; won 4; drew 1 and lost 2 to finish on 4½ points!
England 1 lived up to their number 1 tag to take first place!
