CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 5th March 2020
We had one TAFCA div 2 match on, plus 3 Random Knockout matches and of course the Ladder and Junior Club Championship matches! I guess another busy night at Castlehill Chess Club Dundee!
Div 2: Castlehill E 1, Castlehill D 3
Now the official TAFCA website has not been updated with all the latest results which have still to be sent in by some teams, but unofficially using my detective skills, this result by Castlehill D means with one match to spare (against Perth B), they cannot be caught and it`s “congratulations” to Castlehill D on becoming the division two champions 2019-20 and promotion to division one (unofficially of course)!
DIVISION TWO TABLE
|6||Newport Knights B||8||1||0||7||2||9½|
A fantastic performance from all the players, Gordon Thomas; Graham Atkins; Innes Ford, and captain, Cameron Wilson.
Castlehill D are not the highest graded team in the division, but all the players involved preformed like champions and got their just rewards!
CASTLEHILL RANDOM KNOCKOUT
Prelim – Trevor Harley (1439) 1, Lisa Paton (944) 0
Lisa put up a brave fight, but Trevor was just too good on the night!
Round 1 – Andy Rowe (1536) 1, Fergus Milne (1526) 0
Well this was one for the record books as two old club rivals drew pawns again in a titanic battle! Yes I will not say this very often when Andy Rowe is involved, but it was a cracker of a match by both players, no holds barred, even a little exiting! But in the end Andy lasted the course and took the honours! But it could have gone either way Fergus!
Round 1 – Ray Noble (1536) 1, Colin Young (1380) 0
This was another one of those battles which involved a player of attrition and a player who likes wild games with many complications!
Colin Young played a blinder and to be honest in a very complicated position, he should have been a bit more proactive and won the game. In the end he played a bit more slowly and it cost him dear as Ray found the right moves and pounced like a chess demon on Colin`s last mistake to take victory from the jaws of defeat! (Ray you lucky Bee!)
JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Still a long way to go but after tonight’s matches, Ramit Kanodia has a 3 point lead over Rishabh Akula! Mind you I think others will have a say once they start playing more matches, including Rishi Vijayakumar!
It was Michael Dugdale`s night as he won all 3 of his matches to stake a claim for one of the ladder final places! Michael is now in equal 1st place with Ray Noble in the points table. Ray was not paying tonight as he had a Random Knockout match on!
Subhayu Banerjee was also on hot form only losing the once against Michael, while getting two wins against higher graded players!
Standings on the night
1st Michael Dugdale (3pts)
2nd Subhayu Banerjee (2Pts)
3rd= Robert Jackson & Keith Rose (1pt each)
(See link below for all 3 table standings so far)
Well that`s it for another nights chess and once again it`s congratulations to Castlehill D on winning the division 2 championship (unofficially so far!) 2019-20!
