CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 22nd Feb 2018
What was promising to be a very, very busy night, was made easier by Kirkcaldy A having to postpone there match against Castlehill A. Despite that we still had 29 players down for a game of chess!
Castlehill F 0, Dundee C 4
Castlehill F were out graded, out gunned and out played on the night! Fielding a couple of new players and junior Anish Chaudhuri (J11), against a very strong and experienced Dundee C, the writing was on the wall before the match started! Hopefully our new players and Anish enjoyed the games and maybe learned a bit from them. Well played Dundee C.
Result – Semi-finals
Castlehill E 3, Castlehill C 5
We have a team in the TAFCA knockout final after our “C” team just managed to overcome our “E” team. It could have all been different had our “E” team not had selection problems on the night. Andy Rowe on board one took both games against Graham Atkins, but was lucky to win the second! Mind you the second win pushed the “C” team over the winning line! On board two Craig Nicol had a nightmare first match and duly lost to Colin Young. They agreed a draw in the second one.
Board four saw John Lynch being put through the meat grinder by junior (J12), Rishabh Akula. Indeed if not for time, Rishabh might have beat John! As it was a draw was agreed much to John’s relief! Unfortunately for the “E” team, but fortunately for John, Rishabh`s parents came to collect him and the second match did not take place, win by default for John as Rishabh has left the building! ( A budding Elvis I see!)
Board three saw a cracker of a game between Ray Noble and Marten Kats. (Hopefully we can post that game asap on website) Ray produced a blinder of a combination to over come Marten in the end, but lost a won game in the 2nd match to finish one a piece, which was a fair result considering the two games played. Congratulations to Castlehill C in reaching the final where they will play either Dundee or Kirkcaldy.
Result – Round 4
Keith Rose 1, Ed Walton 0
Ed made Keith work for this win, but in the end experience told!
JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Rishabh Akula (J12) beat championship favourite Ramit Kanodia (J10) to go 1 point ahead of Ramit in the table, but having played one more game. A really good result by Rishabh who is improving all the time. He then followed that by helping out our “E” team in the TAFCA Knockout with a draw against John Lynch! (see report above).
Once again another great night’s chess at Castlehill Dundee.
Yes we will do it all again next week when Perth B and Newport Knights come a knocking at our door!
