CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 21st Nov 19
As usual another busy night’s chess at Castlehill Chess Club, Dundee with two TAFCA matches on as well as our own club stuff!
Div 3: Castlehill F 1½, Dundee E 2½
Congratulations to Dundee E on a fine win on the night. Lisa`s team put up a good fight, but were out gunned on the bottom two boards with our two juniors, Rishabh & Krish Akula taking on the world!
We had better luck in the other match. Mind you both teams were from Castlehill!
Castlehill B 5, Castlehill E 1
Both teams agreed to default the bottom board rather than one team get the default win. Castlehill E were well out gunned, but had the bigger time advantage in all 3 matches (it can be brutal at times!).
1. Ray Noble (15 minutes) v Norman Waugh (45 minutes)
2. Euan Murray (16 minutes) v Daniel Hayes (44 minutes)
3. Subhayu Banerjee (13 minutes) v Daniel Coleman (47 minutes)
Castlehill B won the first half 3 – 0 , only needing a ½ point to go through to the next round.
In round two, Subhayu on board 3 was the first to finish against Daniel Coleman, in double quick time to secure the victory for Castlehill B and a Q/F clash with the winners of Perth v Castlehill A.
Daniel Hayes got the point for Castlehill E against Euan Murray on board two, so no whitewash this time!
Below is the diagram for Ray Noble v Norman Waugh in their 2nd match. Norman was a pawn up, but Ray had all the pressure,
Norman played Rd5 attacking the Knight on c5. What do you think Ray played?
Round 1 TAFCA Knockout (Away match: Thurs 21st Nov 19; Result only)
St.Andrews Uni 5½. Castlehill D 2½

Andre Babin (Castlehill) got things off to a good start in the 1st event at Kirkcaldy Chess Club (Wed 30th Oct), taking outright first place! Lets keep it going everyone!
