CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 18th Oct 18:
With over 35 players down it was guaranteed to be a busy night at Castlehill “AGAIN!”.
Div 1: Castlehill C 1, Castlehill A 3
Castlehill A start their TAFCA league campaign off with a win but boy it did not all go to plan! The “A” team may have won but the “C” team pushed them all the way. Indeed on another night, with a bit of luck it could have been either a draw or a win for the “C” team!
Roy Morris (1446) on board 3 got a fantastic result against Ben Volland (1822). Talk about rolling back the years Roy! On board 1 Declan Shafi (2114) “just” seen off the plucky Tom Constance (1521); Board 4, Euan Dawson (1798) in a time scramble beat “C” teams Cameron Wilson (1302) who played well above his grading. While on board two the “A” teams Sam Gregory (1851) got lucky in the end against club veteran Ray Noble (1482). It was close but in the end the best team (and players) won on the night. Well played Roy!
Div 2: Castlehill E 0, Castlehill D 4
Not a lot to say except the “D” team proved why their players are better than the “E” teams and that the grading system works! Not only that but what a great start to the “D” teams division two campaign!
Up next is the Dundee Chess Congress starting tonight, Friday 19th to Sun 21st Oct 2018 held in the Castlehill Chess Club rooms! This event is also a designated J.R.Chalmers Grand Prix event (see TAFCA website for more info).
That`s all folks for now.
