CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 17th May 2018
Another busy night with 28 players down for a game of chess. We had 7 summer round one matches down to play, plus a ladder.
BOB DUNN SUMMER
Paul Shafi (1584) & (1377) Ray Flood drew
Alan Woodcock (1380)1, (1170) Marten Kats 0
Ramit Kanodia (J) (725)1, (1129) John Lynch 0
Norris Carroll (UG) 1, (1042) Robbie McLeod 0
Lisa Paton (938) 0, (1170)e Cameron Wilson 1
Sneha Sripada (J) (UG) 0, (1195) Ed Walton 1
Ray Noble (1398) 0. (1292) Colin Young 1
Good result for Ray Flood against a 1500+ player! Ramit Kanodia is one of our best juniors and one of the favourites for the junior championship. He also has a lot of congress experience and deserves a lot of credit for taking on and winning against an adult player!
Cameron played well against the very experienced Lisa and was a worthy winner on the night. Norris Carroll ungraded took on and beat Robbie McLeod (1042)!
The result of the round tonight goes to Colin Young who has been in a winning position against Ray Noble before but never converted it. This time he did as he completely out played Ray in the French Defence who kept talking himself out of the best moves! Sometimes you see ghosts when none are there. Colin deserved the win and accolades for his strong performance! Monkey off back now!
Six players took part in the ladder tonight with bragging rights going to Andy Rowe on 2.5 points. Subhayu Banerjee and Baillie Armstrong (good performance Baillie!) finished on 2 points, Agnijo Banerjee (J) on 1.5 points, Scot McKenzie on 1 and Arthur Grant last on zero points in a tough field!
Ladder tables now updated on website. An update will follow soon so everyone knows were they stand!
Next week is the 2nd 5-Minute Grand Prix. Should be another busy night at Castlehill!
