CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 16th Jan 20
Another good nights chess at Castlehill with Junior Club Championship matches on and a TAFCA match involving our “A” & “B” team in division one! The div 3 match between Castlehill F and Kirkcaldy B was postponed at Kirkcaldy’s request.
TAFCA – Div 1
Castlehill B 1, Castlehill A 3
This was a tricky tie for our “A” team but in the end they passed the test with flying colours! It was closer than the score line suggests and on board 3, Fergus Milne took full advantage of an error by new member Michael Dugdale which led to a fine sacrificial mating net!
Cameron Wilson on board 4 was playing up a team for the second day in a row (3rd match in 4 days!) and was on a high after beating Alaster Dawson on Tuesday. He played well and some would say he was winning until a mistake which handed full control over to his opponent Andy Rowe and he was not for letting go this time!
Jan Barron-Majerik pushed Andre Babin all the way but just fell at the final hurdle as many players do against Andre!
Keith Rose and Dariusz Kosznik resumed their battles once again, and once again Dariusz vanquished his opponent, but like all their other battles, it was a close call!
PREVIOUS TAFCA RESULTS THIS WEEK
Monday 13th January 2020
Perth B 1, Castlehill D 3
What a great result for our “D” team against Perth B who on paper were the top team in division two. This gives Castlehill D a great chance of winning the division two title and promotion to the top division! The captain Cameron Wilson was the one who lost but picked the winning team again and are undefeated so far!
Tuesday 14th January 2020
Dundee A 3, Castlehill C 1
As expected but for Cameron Wilson’s (1323) fantastic win against Alastair Dawson (1806) on board 4! Cameron was playing up from “D” team who had played the day before in Perth (see above)! Two matches in two days, wow! Great play Cameron!
Dundee C 2, Castlehill E 2
Castlehill E defied the odds and got the draw, but in reality it was as good as a win against their far stronger opponents! The “E” team captain, Daniel Coleman lead by example beating against all the odds the very experienced and strong Robert Burnett! An unexpected but fantastic result for Daniel!
Well that’s it for another night and we will do it all again next week!
