CHESS CLUB REPORT: 12/10/17
Another busy night at Castlehill Chess Club Dundee with 25 players down for a game of chess! Included in that figure were 8 juniors!
Tonight saw the start of the new Junior Chess Championship and the Ladder. In all 8 juniors took part on the 1st night. More info regards rules etc, later. 19 matches took place using arena pairings (more later!). Leading the way is Ramit Kanodia J10 (725) on 4½ points. In equal 2nd place are brothers Rishabh (J12) & Krish(J10) Akula on 3½ points. Charvi Kanodia J15 (689) is in 4th place on 3 points. She has only played 3 matches so far and could be the one to watch! The competition was run by Paul & Declan Shafi, ably supported by Lisa Paton. It was a very successful start to our new competition. The Junior Championship will run well into next year so plenty time for someone to sneak under the radar and shoot passed the leaders to the finishing line!
The Ladder started with 5 players taking part. The lowest graded player, Arthur Grant caused 2 major upsets to take first place on 3 out of 3. Well played Arthur!
1st Arthur Grant (3 pts)
2nd= Andy Rowe & Ray Noble (2 pts)
4th= Graham Atkins & Colin Young (1 pt)
The new season has started well and let’s hope it continues to be a busy club night all season long!
