CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 12th July 2018.
The summer weather, holidays and football take there toll as we only had 20 people down on the night! Tonight was round 3 of the Bob Dunn Summer competition and we had some great battles with an upset on the cards but…
BOB DUNN SUMMER
Round 3 results
Colin Young ½ – ½ Andy Rowe
What a cracker off a match and one Colin will be kicking himself about. Out graded, Colin put in a great performance against the number 2 seed, Andy Rowe. He even set a trap which Andy like a novice, fell into! It was a won game for Colin which would have given him equal 1st place with Keith Rose going into the last round. Unfortunately for Colin he missed an opertunity and then Andy found a brilliant draw by repetition move to get the draw. Talk about snatching a draw from the jaws of defeat! Great game of chess!
Alan Woodcock 0 – 1 Ray Noble
It was a tight match with a draw looking the most likely outcome until Alan made a bad move which put him on the back foot and a pawn down. But with queens forced off and in a rook endgame, it was once again looking drawish! Ray had plenty of time while Alan was getting a bit low on time and this in the end proved to be Alan’s Achilles heal as he played a move quickly which looked to save the game, only for Alan to shake his head and resign after Ray found the move which Alan missed!
Ed Walton 0 – 1 Ray Flood
This was some match between the two players, but Ray in the end showed his experience which got him the win in the end.
Keith Rose leads on 9 points with one round to go. But he still can be caught as 4 players are on 7 points, including Keith’s next opponent, Andy Rowe! Keith needs at least a draw to guarantee 1st place, but maybe not on his own! If he wants that he has to win! Paul Shafi, Ray Flood and Colin Young are all on 7 points and ready to pip Keith to the post if he slips up.
Round 4 (last) is on Thursday 23rd August 2018.
Next week is the last night of the ladder section and some places are still up for grabs!
BRING IT ON!
