CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 31st May 2018
Busy once again with over 30 players down,12 of them juniors!
At last the battle between Dariusz Kosznick and Declan Shafi took place tonight. Winner takes all, or a draw for joint 1st place along with Jim Anderson! It was a hard match but in the end Declan`s greater knowledge and skill proved too much for Dariusz and Declan won.
So it’s congratulations to Declan Shafi for becoming the Castlehill Chess Club Dundee Club Champion 2017-18! Not only that, but this is his 4th title in a row! He is also part of the successful SNCL Dundee City winning team and East of Scotland Champion 2017-18!
Can no one stop this junior tsunami? At this rate he looks like he could do the Scottish football holy grail of 10 in a row!
Lisa Paton (938) 1, Ray Flood (1377) 0
What a great result for Lisa. Her best win in a while! Well done! Left Ray in “flood” of tears
Graham Atkins (1317) 0, Ray Noble (1398) 1
It was a very good game, full of tension but ended with a good combination, rook take bishop sac, but winning a piece and getting the exchange back by Ray. Nice! But then again what would you expect from the recently crowned Ayr Major Champions 2018!
Two ladder sections took place with 10 players involved. The top section with 5 players was a close affair with Ed Walton & Ettore Rota sharing the top spot. Good to see you back Ettore!
1st= Ed Walton & Ettore .Rota (2.5 pts)
3rd= Colin Young & Cameron Wilson (2 pts)
5th Robert Jackson ( 0 pts) What happened Robert?
In the 2nd ladder it was a junior massacre as Krish Akula J10 finished unbeaten to take the honours! Well played Krish, but to be honest not a surprise at all!
1st Krish Akula J10 (3 pts)
2nd= Innes Ford & Bailie Armstrong (2 pts)
4th= John Lynch & Josh Cargill (1 pt)
An update on the ladder tables will take place ASAP. It`s coming to the crunch time before we get our finalists for 2017-18. So watch the website & Facebook posts!
That`s it for another week. Next week is the 2nd round of the Summer. Does this chess club ever have a rest? Not on your Nelly!
