CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 31st Jan 19
Wow 42 players down and we were “BUZZING!” This included 14 juniors and one possible new member!
Castlehill A 2, Castlehill B 6
This may look like a shock result but in fact grading wise, the “B” team were miles ahead! The “A” team had two juniors and a new member playing for them, plus Andre Babin. But due to that, the “B” team were in a lot of danger due the time handi-cap with two matches 56 minutes to 6 minutes in the “A” teams favour! Our “B” team will meet the winners of St.Andrews Uni & Perth CC.
Alastair Dawson (1742) 1, Roy Morris (1446) 0
Anish Chaudhuri J12 (744) 1, Cameron McDowall (ug) 0
Rishabh Akula J13 (608) 0, Ramit Kanodia J11 (757) 1
Marten Kats (1114) 0, Innes Ford (ug) 1
Alan Brown (ug) 0, Scot McKenzie (515) 1
Subhayu Banerjee (1403) 0, Ray Flood (1512) 1
Apostolas Mentzos (ug) 0, Alan Woodcock (1401) 1
We had 5 players in the ladder tonight, the first since November 2018!
1st Ray Noble (3pts)
2nd Colin Young (2pts)
3rd= John Lynch & Brian Kerr (New) (1½pts each)
5th Peter Sallai (0pts)
Six of our juniors took part in a ladder tonight.
1st Arya Sanu J10 (3pts)
2nd Alexander Barron-Majerik J7 (2pts)
3rd=Haoqi Zhang J & Ansh Pavan (1pt each)
5th= Krish Akula J11 & Tom Grosset J11 (0pts)
Alexander had a good night, only to lose to the surprise winner on full points, Arya Sanu! Well played young man and Alexander too! Krish Akula had one to forget, but we all have them from time to time!
We also had some coaching and skittle games on the go! Oh what a night once again at Castlehill Chess Club Dundee! If this carries on we might need a bigger venue!
Below is the Club Night reports I did not get around to posting the last two weeks due to one thing or another. Even in Chess we have a catch up service just like the TV! All we need to add is “BOX SETS!” (“Ray Noble`s greatest Games!” “Has a certain ring to it no?“)
CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 24th Jan 19
Busy, busy, busy once again with 30 players down. We had one TAFCA match on, two Club Championship matches and one Random Knockout match.
Castlehill F 2½, Dundee D 1½
Great result for our “F” team with both Ramit Kanodia J11 and Jake Proctor J13 winning there matches and captain Lisa Paton (926) on top board drawing with a very good player!
Rishabh Akula J13 (608) 0, Subhayu Banerjee (1440) 1
Rishabh is improving but Subhayu is a tough player to play at anytime!
Ed Walton (1240) 1, Colin Young (1397) 0
Two good players with similar styles
CLUB NIGHT REPORT: Thurs 17th Jan 19
We had 40 people down tonight and wow what a night!
There was another 7 Club Championship matches tonight, but no shock results!
Ed Walton (1242) 0, Declan Shafi (2114) 1
The growing legend that is Declan, fresh from his draw against GM Neil McDonald moved on with ease in his third round tie. Can anybody stop this locomotive from reaching its rightful destination?
John Lynch (1064) 0, Dariusz Kosznik (1749) 1
A walk in the park for Dariusz, but John put up a fight
Paul Shafi (1569) 1, Ramit Kanodia J11 (757) 0
Ramit gave a good account of himself, but Paul is just too steady and strong for him at this moment in time, but his moment will come!
Andy Rowe (1545) 0, James Anderson (1671) 1
Andy is not having his best Club Championship and must have been shocked to meet Jim! Jim won, but did Andy resign to early? We may never know!
Gordon Thomas (1350) 1, Norrie Carroll (ug) 0
Just a slow lingering death for Norrie with Gordon giving nothing away!
Krish Akula J11 (488) 0. Cameron Wilson (1302) 1
The juniors all seemed to be having a good time. No matches but fun at least!
Next week sees the start of the new junior (or adult!) coaching course. Here`s hoping it will give them what they need to move forward in their development to the next level. The first level is beginner and will give them the tools to beat the hacker, Ray Noble! Should not tax them too much!
Next week should be fun!
