5-round Swiss – 45 minutes + 15 seconds – Lichess.org

Round 5 (last)
Congratulations to Richard Kynoch on becoming the Castlehill Online Club Champion 2023-24 after beating Andre Babin in the last round to finish on 5 points and unbeaten!

Graham Mooney & Andre Babin tied for the runners up spot on 4 points. Last seasons defending champion, Rishi Vijayakumar J11, could only manage 4th equal, after losing in the first round and drawing with Andy Rowe in the last round!

Once again congratulations to Richard Kynoch!

—————————————–

Round 4 report and round 5 draw.

No major shocks in round 4 apart from young Josh Dickson J12 (880) getting a very fine draw against Kit McEvoy Gould (1560)est! Nice win, great tournament Josh!

The two leaders (4 points), Andre Babin and Richard Kynoch meet in the last round, while the defending champion, Rishi Vijayakumar J11 (3 points) plays Andy Rowe. Rishi still paying the price for his shock defeat in round one to Tom Wardlaw!

The 5th round (last) draw is now up on the website and the deadline date to be played by is Sunday 7th May 23.

Good luck to all players!

See tabs for all the info and 5th round draw!

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ONLINE 2022-23
5-round Swiss – 45 minutes + 15 seconds – Lichess.org

Round 3 report and round 4 draw.

A bit disappointing with 6 defaulted matches, but to be fair there are a lot of competitions on, OTB and online!

We had two shock results in round 3 with Master Nhat Nguyen J14 (1200)est beating in form Alisdair McLeod (1531) and Camila Montenegro (ug) taking the points against Lloyd Hughes (1754)! Nhat is a very good junior talent, while Camila must have been in 7th heaven after taking down a 1754! Well done the both of you!

We are down to 4 players on the full 3 points (Subhayu Banerjee, Andre Babin, Graham Mooney and Richard Kynoch), with the defending champion, Rishi Vijayakumar J11 just 1 point behind on 2 points. This round will make or break some player’s chances of winning the title, and other may need a little helping hand from other players!

The round 4 draw is now on the website (see link below) and the deadline for matches to be played is Sunday 26th March 23.

Time-Control: 45 minutes + 15 seconds, Rated!

Please contact your opponent ASAP to try and arrange a date and time as it’s a busy chess calendar!

Good luck!

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ONLINE 2022-23
5-round Swiss – 45 minutes + 15 seconds – Lichess.org

Round 2 report and round 3 draw.

Surprisingly there was only one shock result in round 2 with Subhayu Banerjee (1444) getting the better of Euan Murray (1575) with the black pieces! You still got it somewhere Subahyu!

All the rest of the results went with the form book (we have a form book?).

We have 8 players still on full points, but in round 3 something has to give!

The round 3 draw is now on the website (see link below) and the deadline for matches to be played is Sunday 5th February 23.

Please contact your opponent ASAP to try and arrange a date and time as it’s a busy chess calendar!

Good luck!

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ONLINE 2022-23 – Round One Report
5-round Swiss – 45 minutes + 15 seconds – Lichess.org

Well the 1st round went okay with most matches taking place by the deadline. We still have about 4 matches outstanding and hopefully will be played! To make sure we are not held up too much I have given them a “Pool’s Panel” result (just like the football!) so the 2nd round draw can take place

Most of the 1st round matches went by the form book, but we did have a couple that did not! The biggest shock of the tournament was by Tom Wardlaw (1234) who beat defending champion Rishi Vijayakumar J11! Well played Tom! Did not see that one coming!

Credit also to Nhat Nguyan J13, for getting a fighting draw with the black against the experienced Lloyd Hughes (1754). Nice game Nhat!

The round 2 draw is up on our website and the deadline date is “CHRISTMAS”! Yes Sun 25th Dec 22 is the deadline and I wonder how many of you will scramble to play it by or even “ON” Christmas! Hope you get the present you want!
