CASTLEHILL SUMMER FUN ONLINE 2020
Congratulations to Master Rishi Vijaykumar J8 on becoming the first ever champion of the Summer Fun Online tournament 2020. What a remarkable achievement from someone so young, yet so experienced now as this win is just another step on his ladder to greater things to come! This follows hot on the heels of his 2nd place at the weekend in the 2020 UK Chess Challenge Terafinals! On top of this, Rishi has already been selected and played for Scotland in the Glorney Junior Festival 2020. The list does go on!
In the last round of the Summer Rishi was White against the very experienced golden oldie, James Anderson. It was looking like a bridge too far grading and experience wise, but Rishi was not daunted by the challenge! He seemed to be putting a lot of pressure on James Anderson defense, when on move 25 James made a blunder and allowed his Queen and Rook to be forked by Rishi`s Knight. The game went on for a while but the end was never in doubt once Rishi smells the blood of his victim! Well played young man!
Well played Andy Rowe and Ed Walton on finishing equal runners-up after both winning their last round matches and hoping for a draw in Rishi`s match!
1st Rishi Vijaykumar J8 (1002) 9 pts
2nd= Andy Rowe 8 pts (1572)
2nd= Ed Walton 8 pts (1481)
4th James Anderson (1540)
We are a very blessed chess club to have such a gifted junior as a member of our club, but even given that, to beat a field of adults who have good grades and a lot of experience is beyond belief. To top it all he even took down the top seed at the start of the tournament, James Anderson (1611) and the current top graded player (new grades) in the competition, Ray Noble (1591) (mind you where Ray`s concerned, so did everyone else!) it defies superlatives to do Rishi justice!
Thank you everyone for taking part in this new venture for Castlehill. I hope you all enjoyed the event.
