CASTLEHILL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS OTB 2021-22
Round 1 report
Oh what a night in middle of March 2022, 7:30pm at Castlehill Chess Club Dundee as once again we were holding our Club Championship OTB (Over the board) matches! It was fantastic, wonderful, out of this world, incredible, historic and a joyful occasion worthy of Beethoven’s 5th symphony playing in the back ground calling all the players to battle!
The room was full of happy chess players feeling that tingle of magic just like when they played their first ever game of chess at a chess club!
The only slightly upset(ing) result was Andy Rowe (1518) drawing with one of our new members Nhat Nguyen (1000)est. But then again a draw in OTB chess by Andy against anybody in round one. Is that really an upset or just normal service has been resumed!
There were a few sticky moments for for the likes of Ray Noble who just managed to win against another of our new members, Scott Xu. He was lost in the opening but his opponent lacking experience could not take advantage and Ray got back in the game and made his experience tell in the end! Talk about playing a “get out of jail” card!
Sixteen players entered this seasons Club Championship which is a far cry from 40 plus we normally have, but given the circumstances over the last two years and still some reluctance by some players to mingle, it`s understandable. It`s a base to start building up from hopefully!
The results of round 1, the standings so far and the round 2 draw are now up on our website (link below). The match night for round 2 is Thursday 31st March 22, 7:30pm at Castlehill Chess Club Dundee.
Good luck to all players!
