Congratulations go to Dundee & Victoria for retaining there grip on the Bobby Gow Memorial trophy with a fine win by 9 points to 8. This means D&V have won the last 5 matches a truly wonderful achievement.

Well done guys!

Going into this match Dundee & Victoria were as usual strong favorites, out grading Castlehill by 71 points on average, and out grading our players on 14 boards out of 17!

Castlehill had ambitions due to a few strong additions player wise to there team this year. Both clubs had important players missing on the night due to one thing or another, but both teams were able to field 17 players each. A fantastic turn-out. Castlehill had another two players available, making 19 players in total for them.

The match was a roller coaster ride with each team matching the other points wise. Then Dundee/Victoria started to build up a lead which ultimately Castlehill could not claw back enough. John Robertson Jnr (D&V) was the player responsible for taking Dundee/Victoria Chess Club over the winning line with a fine draw against Paul Shafi (Castlehill). D&V won by one point, the same margin as last year. A close match, but ultimately disappointment once again for Castlehill for the fifth year in a row.

This tournament is a fantastic opening competition for the new season and a great advert for local chess.
 A fine way to warm up for the TAFCA league season.

Thanks also go to Stobbie Sports Bar and there staff for hosting this event this year.

Once again congratulations to Dundee & Victoria for retainining the Bobby Gow Memorial Cup!

See you all next year at D&V on;
