RANDOM KNOCKOUT RULES

  1. The competition will be conducted by a random draw made on a club night after each round has been completed.

  2. The closing date for entries shall be the Third Thursday in November. No entries will be taken after the first round draw has been made.

  3. The round draws will be displayed on the notice board and Web site.

  4. The tournament dead-line dates are as follows; (Subject to change)
    Prelim  -  3rd Monday in January
    Round 1  -  4th Monday in February
    Round 2  -  2nd Monday in April
    Semi-Finals -  4th Monday in May
    FINAL  -  4th Monday in June

  5. The time control will be 30 moves in 60 minutes, followed by an additional 15 minutes quick-play finish.

  6. In all rounds the first player drawn out will have the white pieces.

  7. After the draw has been made each player shall arrange to play their designated opponent within the allotted time.

  8. BOTH PLAYERS must make a serious attempt to contact their opponent, including by Email or telephone at least 7 days prior to the dead-line, (see general rules 18&19). Failure to contact the organiser or Club Secretary to intimate any problems, at least 5 days before the dead-line shall seriously risk incurring a double default.

  9. Any player not having played by the dead-line shall be defaulted.  It is not acceptable for a player to turn up on the dead-line night and claim a win by default.

  10. The competition organiser and/or committee may make amendments deemed appropriate to ensure the smooth running of the tournament.

  11. TIE-BREAKS-In the event of a draw on the night the following shall apply:

              a) Players to play on the same night, another game with colours reversed; All moves in 10 minutes each.

              b) A 5 minute blitz game, colours reversed.

              c) Lower graded player wins.

              d) Toss of coin
