players; 10 from Castlehill & 6 from Dundee/Victoria turned up for the
opening night. Castlehill were at home. Average grading for teams was;
Castlehill 1338; Dundee/Victoria 1476.
Despite
Dundee & Victoria out grading Castlehill on average the 10 to 6 ratio helped
Castlehill as the home team. Colin Edwards put in a fine performance to
secure 1st place with 5 wins out of 5. Jim Anderson finished second with 4
points only losing to Colin.
Declan
Shafi aged 8 won two games on the night a fine performance!
It
was good to see the club so full and hopefully this will continue at
Castlehill and at Dundee/Victoria when we play there next.

Congratulations
go to Frank, Keith & John Kelly for a great nights work!
A
fantastic 24 players took part in the second Inter-Club Allegro held at
Dundee & Victoria Chess Club. 11 Castlehill & 13 Dundee/Victoria
players. (there was also 3 non-playing players 2 Castlehill, 1
Dundee/Victoria)
The
top 14 players grading wise were split 7 each between the clubs so the
event was open to anyone too win. Average grading; Castlehill - 1427;
Dundee/Victoria 1406.
Everything
was going to form except for a certain Master Declan Shafi aged 8 who was
having a good time. He beat Robert Burnett in round 1 and Calum Ironside
in round 3. Both much higher graded and experienced players. A player to
watch in the future.
Going
into the last round Colin & Rasheed were in the lead (both Castlehill)
on 3.5 points. The last round changed everything and upset the form book.
Frank Stevenson(D/V) beat Rasheed(CH) and Keith Rose(CH) beat Colin
Edwards(CH) who had not lost in 9 matches! The last round proved vital in
the club standings. Castlehill were looking good until a Castlehill player
upset the form book. The night belonged to Dundee & Victoria and they
pulled up level on points with Castlehill. After two events all still to
play for!
As
might be expected the club was very busy!
My
thanks go to all helpers and Dundee/Victoria for hosting a goodnight.
Congratulations
go to Colin Edwards (Castlehill) winning the 3rd Inter-Club Allegro and so
extending his lead in the Individual.
A
stupendous 20 players took part in the third Inter-Club Allegro held at
Castlehill Chess Club.
Player
club split Castlehill 11 & Dundee/Victoria 9 players took part.
Average grading; Castlehill -
1385;
Dundee/Victoria 1473.
In
the last round Colin Edwards was drawn against Frank Stevenson with both
players going for gold, winner takes all, but Colin could afford to draw and so
win the competition on the night!
=2nd
Fergus Milne & John Robertson Jnr; =4th Frank Stevenson & John
Kelly
This
is what chess club nights should be like all the time!
What a night! New players of good playing strength made an
impact for both sides. players were split 10 each per club; This meant 20
players took part. Average grading was Dundee/Victoria 1519 ; Castlehill
1480: For the forth match in a row Castlehill were out graded again!
Colin Edwards the leading player up to now won his first three matches. He then
played Patrick Muhi and took a draw. In the last round the top two boards were
between Castlehill & Dundee/Victoria with Dundee/Victoria winning both
boards to keep themselves in contention for the Inter-Club Allegro championship
1st=Stuart Hayes, John Robertson (Jnr) (D&V) & Rasheed Lawal
(Castlehill)
4th=Colin Edwards & Patrick Muhi (Castlehill).
Castlehill take a one point lead into the 5th round.
This is proving to be a great competition!
Another good turnout with 18
players taking part. The only disappointment was Dundee & Victoria only
having 4 players out of the 18, but what four players!
Average grading;
Castlehill 1407; Dundee & Victoria 1657.
So once again Castlehill were out graded but
this time had a big home advantage in players. Ed played for the first
time in this competition and duly showed his class. The leading Castlehill
player was and has been Colin Edwards who drew with Ed on the night and with
this not only shared 1st place with Ed on the night, but guaranteed he could
not be caught in the Individual Inter-Club Allegro Championship.
Congratulations Colin!
Castlehill take a 5.5 point
lead into the final night away to Dundee & Victoria on Monday 19th April.
With 15 points available on the night there is still all to play for. We need 5
points on the night to secure victory!
Twenty players tuned out for the last
round with Castlehill having 12 & Dundee/Victoria 8 players. This was four
more than last time but when you consider Dundee/Victoria were at home this was
a bit of a disappointment.
Average grading;
Castlehill 1370; Dundee & Victoria 1406.
So once again Castlehill were out graded but
once again had a big advantage in players. The leading Castlehill
player was and has been Colin Edwards who despite drinking from early doors won
all his matches on the night.
On the night Castlehill won 15 points to 1.5 points, Murder was committed at Dundee Social!
Congratulations Castlehill (Club) &
Colin Edwards (Individual)
