 Being the lead up to Christmas, the Dundee Social Club rooms were fully booked up and we had no alternative but to hold the competition in the main bar area, which was great for getting a drink, not so good for other things. In attendance was Jean Chalmers & Martin Chalmers. Also here but not playing was David Findlay Ray Noble and John Lynch.

A minutes silence was held in memory of Jim Chalmers who past away on Friday (9th Dec). Jim a long time member of Dundee & Victoria Chess Club and president for over 15 years will be sadly missed by his family and friends and the Chess community at large for all the work he did promoting chess in this area. Up to the last minute , even thou ill health was taking it toll he still worked tirelessly in chess as the currant TAFCA President. RIP

His funeral is Friday 16thth December 2011, 1:15pm at the Dundee crematorium.

For the first time in a long time, Castlehill out graded there opponents on average;

Dundee/Victoria - 1492;     -       Castlehill - 1560

This despite Dundee/Victoria (15) having more players than Castlehill (9).

After the first two rounds it was all square team wise, but the last three rounds proved to be very fruitful for Castlehill, coming out winners on the night.

Dundee/Victoria 5 v 10 Castlehill

This gives Castlehill a lead of 8 points after two events with the total score;

Castlehill 19; Dundee/Victoria 11.

Dmitriy Payada (Castlehill) finished top with a perfect 5/5 beating Ed Spencer (DV) & Mikey Grove (CH) along the way. Mikey and Alastair Dawson (DV) finished equal 2nd, with Peter Walsh(DV) & Jim McCluskey equal 4th.

Dmitriy now leads Ed by 3.5 in the Individual race.

Winner R/up

Dundee/Victoria win 10 - 5 on the night and close the gap on Castlehill. This despite having a player disadvantage. 20 players took part with Castlehill having 13 players and Dundee/Victoria 7! Out of 7 players, D&V had 3 of the top five players, including the number one player Ed Spencer.

Average grading was; Castlehill 1373; Dundee/Victoria 1449

Castlehill were once again out graded and missing a few top players, we had the numbers, but failed to defend our score. Dundee & Victoria deserved their victory and close the gap to; Castlehill 24; Dundee/Victoria 21, a gap of only 3 points with 3 matches left!

Ed Spencer took 1st place on the night with Gary Weir in 2nd. There was a 6 way tie for 3rd place; Dmitriy Payada, Alastair Dawson, Ray Noble, Graham Atkins, Andy Paulin & Jim McCluskey. The results meant that Ed Spencer overtook Dmitriy at the top of the Individual table with 10pts. Dmitriy in 2nd place with 9.5. Dmitriy was unlucky in that he was late due to uni stuff and lost his first round match due to time. There were still a lot of players missing from both clubs, especially the top players. Lets hope the next one will see their return!

Well-played Dundee & Victoria! May be only turning up with 7 players is a new tactic that worked!

All to play for over the next 3 events.
