How Old is Granny?

`How old are you, Granny?` the young boy asked one day.
`Don`t you know it's rude to ask a lady's age?` replied Granny to the curious little boy.
`Sorry,` replied the boy, `I didn't know, but I still want to know your age,`

`Well, see if you can solve this puzzle,` smiled the old lady, `It may help you with your sums,`
The little boy listened as his Granny spoke.

`Next year,` said the old lady, `I will be six times as old as I am now, less six times as old as I was 10 years ago,`

How old is Granny?

CHESS TRIVIA?!

Scotland the Brave

The first woman to play on a man's team was Mary Gilchrist who played for Scotland in the 1937 Olympiad. In 1950 Madame Chade de Silans played for France.

US president Gerald Ford officially declared October 9th as National Chess Day

 


Time-Out

In New York 1857 Paul Morphy played Louis Paulsen. They decided to record the times for any move over 5 minutes. Morphy, renowned for his brilliance, consumed 25 minutes but his opponent used a whopping 11 hours!


Barking Mad

At  Brighton Chess club in England during the 1930s, a Mrs Sydney was allowed to bring her dog along - but only if the dog joined the club. Later the dog, called Mr Mick, was mistakenly picked for the club`s second team. He lost on time.....
