5 - MINUTE MONTHLY GRAND PRIX TOURNAMENT

  • The closing time for entries shall be 7:45pm on the evening of the event. No entries shall be accepted after play begins. The organiser shall display the next date on the club notice board & web site ASAP.

  • The tournament shall take place on one club evening every four to six weeks from September. to July; 7:45pm start. A minimum of 7 events must take place.

  • The tournament shall be run as a All-Play-All using Chess Scotland approved Round Robin pairing rules.

  • Time-Control: 5 minutes per player all moves.

  • Scoring: win=1point; Draw=½point; Loss=0points:

  • Each player shall arrange to play their opponents within the allotted time.

  • Any player not completing at least 50% of their games, shall have all their results discounted.

  • Players will be awarded points for finishing in the top 6 places. At the end of the seven events the player with the most points will be the Club 5-Minute Champion.

  • In the event of a tie, See tie-Break section.

  • Points Awarded:

  1. 10 points

  2. 7 points

  3. 5 points

  4. 3 points

  5. 2 points

  6. 1 point

  • If two or more players are tied for places on the night they will share the points for the said number of places, i,e, Two players tied for first place on the night will get the points for 1st & 2nd place added together, then divided by two=17 points divided by two = 8.5 points each.

  • The competition organiser and/or committee may make any amendments deemed appropriate to ensure the smooth running of the tournament.

 TIE-BREAK (after seven events)

 

  •   If two players are tied on the same points for the championship then they play the best of three 5-minute games. The third game, colour  is drawn by lot.
