SEASON 5 – ROUND 4 (7 rounds in total)
Tuesday 8th March 22 – 7:30pm
Time-Control: 45 minutes + 15 seconds increments
Division One – Group D
Dundee City A (2113) 2½ – 1½ (2081) Spirit of Atticus A
Great win by the skin of their teeth for Dundee City A! Jacques Ophoff lost on top board, Declan Shafi got a fighting draw on board two and Ed Spencer on board three got a much needed win to keep us in the mix! It all rested on the final match on board four and boy was that a tight match on the board and on the clock! But Mr dependable, Stephen Hogg once again did the business and took the win to give Dundee City A the victory!
This pushes Dundee A up to 3rd place on 6 points, just one point behind current leaders Schach Attack on 7 points. This is the best run for a while and Dundee City A are still in the fight for the semi-finals!
Division Two – Group D
Bude Reef Surfers (1948) 1½ – 2½ (1912) Dundee City B
Another tight match which saw Dundee City B get an incredible win! On board one was none other than English GM legend, Dr John Nunn with Gary Weir having the honour of playing him! It was not to be for Gary but what a fight he made of it. Alan Borwell on board two got a mind blowing draw against not only a stronger opponent, but the wife of GM Dr John Nunn! This draw proved pivotal as our two bottom boards, Andre Babin and Euan Dawson both won to give Dundee City B the victory!
This puts Dundee City B in 3rd place on 6 points, 1 point behind leaders Cornish Choughs who they still have to play! Semi-Finals still a possibility with this talented bunch of players!
Division Four – Group B
Dundee City C (1863) 4 – 0 (1144) MHJ Bishops
Given the grading difference this should have been an easy match for Dundee City C, but banana skins still have to be carefully avoided! This Dundee City C did but they knew they had been in a fight with MHJ Bishops! Unfortunately Richard Kynoch on board 3 did not get a game as his opponent was a no show (Could not make it).
Dundee City C sit top of the division on a perfect 8 points out of 8! They are 3 points clear of their nearest rivals Wessex Some Stars E who they still have to play! Oh lads what a run and the semi-finals in touching distance! Well played Graham Mooney; Dariusz Kosznik; Richard Kynoch and Alastair Dawson!
Division Four – Group D
Farnham B (1613) 1 – 3 (1606) Dundee City D
What a result for Dundee City D! Ray Flood, Jan Barron-Majerik, Leyton Hackney & James Anderson (turning back the hands of time Jim!) all put in a shift and pulled off a great result!
This puts them in 2nd place on 6 points, a half a board point behind leaders (also on 6 points) Stratham B, and 1 board point ahead of Plymouth 2 who are also on 6 points. Dundee City D still have to play the both of them! You can smell the semi-finals just a little bit!
Dundee City E (1538) 2 – 2 (1558) Bromley
This fighting draw against a strong side keeps Dundee City E in touching distance of top spot! They sit in 7th place on 5 points, 2 behind leaders Worcester Wolfpack who they have already played. Well played Rishi Vijayakumar J10, Robert Jackson, Kit McEvoy Gould and Subhayu Banerjee.
What a great night’s work with 4 wins and one draw! Dundee City rule!
