4NCL (Nations Chess League) Report round 3!

February 24, 2022NewsBy Ray Noble

4NCL (Nations Chess League)
Dundee City teams are a joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club.

SEASON 5 – ROUND 3 (7 rounds in total)
Tuesday 22nd February 22 – 7:30pm
Time-Control: 45 minutes + 15 seconds increments

Division One – Group D
Wessex Some Stars C (1899) 1½ – 2½ (2112) Dundee City A

At this level all matches are fairly equal and so it proved with the Wessex players fighting tooth and nail to get a result against a slightly stronger side (1880+ v 2000+!). It went right to the last match with 3 draws and one win which went our way for a change!
What a match and what a performance by our team in the end, well played!
(Jacques Ophoff; Declan Shafi; Ed Spencer & Stephen Hogg)
Dundee City A sit in 5th place on 4 points, one behind leaders Schach Attack and Alba who we have already played and drawn with both!

Division Two – Group D
Dundee City B (1890) 1½ – 2½ (1898) Manchester Manticores

Grades even, players evenly matched, it was a toss of the coin who would take the honours with a draw the most likely outcome! Fine margins, was all that was in it at the end as both sides battled it out. This time the outcome went Manchester’s way, on another night it would have been Dundee City`s!
Well played all players from both sides!
(Gary Weir; Andre Babin; Richard Kynoch; & Alastair Dawson)

Dundee City B are in 4th place on 4 points, only 1 point behind leaders Cornish Choughs!

Division Four – Group B
Hebden Bridge 3 (1428) 1 – 3 (1735) Dundee City C

It’s never easy playing a team graded lower than you but our Dundee City C team players took it in their stride with a comfortable win in the end. Graham Mooney and Dariusz Kosznik on boards 1 & 2 respectively gave us the base with 2 wins, while on board 4 Trevor Harley brought home the bacon in a tricky match. Hopefully this will boast his confidence which he sometimes lacks in his games! This time Robert Jackson was the unlucky loser, but remember it’s a team game and the next time he will be the savour!

(Graham Mooney; Dariusz Kosznik; Robert Jackson & Trevor Harley)

Dundee City C top the table on 6 points, 2 clear of the rest of the field! Looking good but with 4 matches left still a lot to play for!

Division Four – Group D

Dundee City D (1605) 2 – 2 (1621) Oxford 4

Another close match grading wise with all players evenly matched board for board! In the end they could not be separated and a draw was a fair result for both sides!

(James Anderson; Ray Flood; Leyton Hackney & Jan Barron-Majerik)

Dundee City D are in 2nd place on 4 points, only a ½ a board point behind leaders (4 pts), Streatham B.

Division Five

Watford Juniors B (1153) 0 – 4 (1534) Dundee City E

No slip up`s here in a comfortable win against their out graded opponents. You can do no better than that in any match!

(Rishi Vijayakumar J10; John Robertson Jnr; Kit McEvoy Gould & Subhayu Banerjee)

Dundee City E are in 4th place (27 teams) on 4 points, 2 points behind the 3 teams above them. Sitting in the perfect spot for the final 4 matches and it’s all in their own hands!
