4NCL (4 NATIONS CHESS LEAGUE) Round 6 report

November 4, 2021NewsBy Ray Noble

4NCL (4 NATIONS CHESS LEAGUE)
Tuesday 2nd November 21 – 7:30pm – Round Six
Time-Control: 45 minutes + 15 minutes increments

(Dundee City is a joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club.)

REPORT

RESULTS – Round 6

Division One – Group C

Mushrooms 1 (2012)1½ – 2(2175) Dundee City A

A nice win in what has turned out to be a very tough campaign against amazing teams and players. With one round to go Dundee sit in 5th place on 4 points, but are too far behind this season to reach the semi-finals.

Well played Jacques Ophoff CM (2260); David Findlay (2150); Declan Shafi (2087) & Ed Spencer (2098).

Division Three – Group C

Barnet Knights B (1753) 1 – 3 (1839)  Dundee City B

Congratulations to Dundee City B who with one week to spare have qualified for the Semi-final’s after this convincing win! They sit top of the Group C table on 10 points 1 point ahead of second place Hackney Thirsty on 9 points. This is the only team that can catch us at the top. Week 7 Dundee City.B face Camborne Trevithick who still have promotion in their sites so it will be a tough match!

Well played Richard Kynoch (1862); Miguel Angel Prieto Alvarez (1800); Alastair Dawson (1833) & Andre Babin (1863)!

Division Five – Swiss League (56 teams)

Sheffield Uni ’70s graduates (1716) 2½ – 1½ (1750) Dundee City C

This was a tough match which could have gone either way, but this time not ours! Dundee City C sit in 16th place on 7 points with one match left. They still have something to play for which is bragging rights if they finish above Dundee City D! (see result below).

Well played Dariusz Kosznik (1867); Graham Mooney CM (1880); James Anderson (1630) & Ray Flood (1623).

War & Piece Nimrod (1661) ½ – 3½ (1522) Dundee City D

What an unbelievable result by Dundee City D against a side that out graded them on “EVERY BOARD”! A result that puts them one point above Dundee City C with one round to go! Mathematically I think it is still possible for Dundee City D to finish in runner-up spot, but realistically with so many teams above them on 9 points, forget!

Well played indeed Leyton Hackney (1597); Rishi Vijayakumar J10 (1597); John Robertson Jnr (1562) & Peter Sallai (1435).

Last qualifying round 7 on Tuesday 16th November 21.
