Thursday Night Weekly Competition: Arena 72 report

October 30, 2021NewsBy Ray Noble

Thursday Night Weekly Competition
Arena 72
Thurs 28th Oct 21
8:10pm (20:10 hrs) to 9:40pm (21:40 hrs)

Time-Control: 5 minutes + 3 seconds increments

With TAFCA online league matches on and the OTB Chess Club back open again, this competition was always going to take a hit this week with only 5 players in total taking part!

Mind you that did not make it any less interesting for those that took part and we still had some shock results to boot!

Congratulations to Oggy Kolev on finishing in 1st place on 10 points. This is the third time Oggy has taken top spot in this time-control! He does love the quicker type formats!

Judith Firth finished runner-up to Oggy on 4 points which included a win against Oggy and Ray Noble, two players graded higher and with a lot more experience! This was an unbelievable performance by Judith who is still in the learning faze of the game! Just shows when you put in the work you get your rewards! Well played Judith you deserved the runner-up spot!!

The last podium place went to Josh Dickson J11 on 3 points. He was rewarded for his battling chess which deservedly earned him a draw against Ray Noble and his first 3rd place finish in this time-control! As juniors go in our club, he is worth the watching!

Josh also took the highest junior finisher this week so two wins in one tournament is not a bad nights work for one so young!

Thank you all for supporting this tournament with all that was going on and once again congratulations to all podium finishers!
