TAFCA LEAGUE ONLINE – Match Report (16/07/20)
Castlehill Chess Club`s top two teams kicked off their TAFCA League online division one campaign on Thursday 16th July with a derby match against each other!
Castlehill Armadillo`s (Avg grade 1861) & Castlehill Bandicoot`s (Avg grade 1496)!
Armadillo`s (“A” team) were heavy favourites with plenty armour, but the Bandicoot`s (“B” team) showed they were not just a bunch of bandits!.
- Board 4; Robert Jackson (1573) v (1429) Ed Walton
The game started off with a slight hitch as they were playing the wrong time-control! They re-started the match but unfortunately this time, Ed made an early error (lost a piece) and was on the back foot from there. It was a shame, maybe the restart had affected things, but both players were the same. They had both played on Monday against each other in the Castlehill Summer Fun, with same colours and Ed won that one! Alas due to his error Ed could not repeat!Accuracy: White = 60%, Black = 42%
First blood to Armadillo`s!
Armadillo`s 1, Bandicoot`s 0
- Board 1: Michael Dugdale (1537) v (2141) Declan Shafi
Despite being well out graded, Michael gave Declan a hard, hard battle, but in the end class prevailed and Declan took the honours!Accuracy: White = 45%, Black = 55%
Declan`s win give`s the Armadillo`s at least a draw!
Armadillo`s 2, Bandicoot`s 0
- Board 3: Euan Murray (1500)e v (1865) Andre Babin
Euan is proving to be a very good match player as this game showed! Andre is no push over, but Euan when he got his chance never left a stone unturned in his relentless attack which proved too much for Andre in the end!Accuracy: White = 62%, Black = 48%
Euan`s victory against all the odds gave the Bandicoot`s some hope after all!
Armadillo`s 2, Bandicoot`s 1
- Board 2: Graham Mooney (1866) v (1520) Paul Shafi
It been a while since Graham Mooney played a game for Castlehill, and it was good to have him back courtesy of online chess! Paul played the better chess overall and missed a few small chances to win against his stronger opponent! Graham has a reputation for dodging the bullet and it seems something’s never change as he managed somehow to avoid defeat in a some what worse position! A draw was a good result for both players in the end, but not enough for the Bandicoot`s to cause a shock result!
Accuracy: White = 48%, Black = 65%
Armadillo`s 2½, Bandicoot`s 1½
A nice start for Armadillo`s in what is always a tricky fixture against their club mates! They join Dundee Allosaurus`, Newport Knights Athletic and St.Andrews Fun Team A on 2 points after the first round of matches!
